About the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled geospatial data scientist with a focus on climate insurance products. In this role, you will collaborate with data scientists, domain specialists, and engineers to develop and deploy cutting-edge methods for monitoring environmental changes and assessing risks related to carbon projects.

What you’ll be doing

  1. Develop and implement innovative methodologies for monitoring and assessing carbon and biodiversity changes using satellite remote sensing data

  2. Analyse and interpret climate data to assess risks and impacts to carbon projects and their ability to store/sequester carbon

  3. Lead the integration of remote sensing data with climate models and ground measurements to improve risk assessment accuracy.

  4. Collaborate with insurance product teams to design insurance products

  5. Create a knowledge base for the team internally and be an advocate for the company mission externally

  6. Assist the CEO in delivering robust risk methodologies to price insurance policies 

What we’re looking for

  1. MSc (or PhD) in Data Science or Climate Science with relevant experience in industry (minimum 2 years). Experts with no academic qualifications but >5 years experience can also apply!

  2. Exposure to innovative insurance products from novel and new datasets

  3. Experience in creating data pipelines and writing production level code

  4. Understanding of machine/deep learning models and applications of LLMs.

  5. Python and Postgres expertise with a focus on using the right tools for the job rather than using python for all jobs. (We don’t mind MVP’s and concepts on spreadsheets!)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Docker, FastApi, AWS/GCP

  • Previous experience in a start-up environment or an understanding of the challenges of building a new business.

Compensation/Benefits

  • Salary: £50k-65k (equity and salary ratio negotiable)

  • 100% Remote possible within +/-2 GMT

  • The team is located in London and meets once a week, although this is optional

  • Unlimited annual leave. We trust our team to get the work done and manage their own time off.
